Every day SPAY/USA receives calls from people asking for material for class reports, presentations to city or county councils or commissioners, civic clubs, humane society boards of directors, animal control agencies and even state legislators. We called this category of calls Statistics, Studies and Surveys.

At one time we attempted to send or fax these articles or reports or graphs and charts out but clearly that is becoming both too overwhelming and obsolete. Now we have a new and wonderful vehicle for you to browse and find what you need: this site.

We have divided the materials into several categories:

• Summaries of Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association articles that relate to the companion animal surplus. We are only able to provide summaries, but information on which issue of JAVMA contains the article is provided for you.
  
  
• Charts and graphs of shelter numbers from several cities and states. We hope to add to these as you send us verifiable information with sources.
  
  
• Articles on the companion animal surplus. This is a mix of articles, reports, surveys and other material which does not always fall neatly into a category. We encourage you to browse through the list and use the materials that are helpful to you.
  
  • Latest U.S. data shows shelter killing down to 4.2 million/year
    
    
  • Post-9/11 shelter killing hits 4.9 million a year
    
    
• At some point in the future we would like to add a fourth “S” - and that is success stories. Again, we will need a way to verify the stories, but if you have a documented program that has clearly resulted in reducing the numbers of animals entering shelters or on the streets, do let us know. Other people will want to have the inspiration!
