The PETCO Foundation's mission is to support community organizations and efforts that enhance the lives of companion animals while strengthening the bond between people and pets. PETCO Animal Supplies was founded in 1965 on the principle of "connecting with the community." This philosophy has served us well in becoming productive partners to the many and diverse humane groups we assist and support nationwide. PETCO's rapid growth and nationwide expansion created the need to launch a separate organization capable of managing our charitable endeavors. The PETCO Foundation was established in February 1999, as a result of this increasing hands-on involvement with animal welfare agencies across the country. PETCO's partnership with the PETCO Foundation allows us to promote charitable, educational, and other philanthropic activities for the betterment of companion animals everywhere.

Today, the PETCO Foundation donates about $8 million a year to assist companion animals across the country, having granted over $68 million dollars since our inception. The organization is funded primarily through donations raised during seasonal fundraisers conducted in PETCO's 1,000 plus stores in all 50 United States, including an annual National Spay/Neuter Fundraiser. Donations also come from PETCO associates, vendors, online and corporate contributions. The majority of the funds raised remain in the community in which they were raised, but the PETCO Foundation is also involved in many national animal welfare efforts.

We, at PETCO Foundation, realize that the hard and important work has always been done by the folks out in the trenches. We partner with over 6,500 non-profit animal welfare groups to provide the monetary, tangible and educational resources that will help them continue to make a difference in the lives of the companion animals in our nation. It is because of these hard working individuals that good animals are saved and adopted out every day, that people are educated, that disabled persons are placed with animals that can help them lead more normal lives, that over-population of unwanted pets is stemmed...

In addition to financial and material resources, we provide a number of other educational resources, including Adoption Options Workshops, invitations to other relevant training seminars, Social networking support through Twitter, Facebook and YouTube - catering specifically to the needs of our partners.

The PETCO Foundation encourages Applications for Support from any 501(c)(3) organization that fulfills one or more of the "Four Rs." Organizations should be local and be able to enlist the support of their local PETCO store.
