PETsMART Charities Grant Request
Overview of Guidelines
PETsMART Charities mission is to improve the quality of life for all companion animals through programs that save the lives of homeless pets and promote healthy relationships between people and pets. PETsMART Charities Grant Program provides limited financial assistance to fund innovative programs, with measurable results, that help accomplish our mission. With increased competition for funds, not all programs will be able to be supported.
Eligibility for Awards
Non-profit animal welfare organizations, municipal animal control facilities and educational establishments are eligible to apply for grants from PETsMART Charities. Applicants do NOT need to be in a community with a PETsMART store, unlike the PETsMART Charities sponsorships. If there is a PETsMART store and a PETsMART Charities' Adoption Center in the community, it is NOT required that the group be involved with that program to be eligible for a grant. However, grant applications are welcomed from PETsMART Charities' Adoption partners.
Program Areas of Interest include Spay/Neuter Programs
Eligibility for Funding:
PETsMART Charities' hope is to support the piloting of innovative programs that we may later be able to help expand to similar communities. Our objective is to fund programs that are judged to be strong based on the following criteria:
- NEW - Is this a New program to this Organization/community?
- INNOVATIVE - Is it Innovative in saving the lives of animals? Will it potentially produce a model that other agencies can copy?
- MEASURABLE - Will the results be Measurable - in reducing euthanasia and saving lives - through increased adoptions, sterilizations, reclaims, etc?
- SUSTAINABLE - Is the program Sustainable? PETsMART Charities does not intend to fund the same program in subsequent years. After seed funding by PETsMART Charities, how will the program be sustained through other sources of funding?
- COLLABORATION - PETsMART Charities is very supportive of collaborative efforts. Significant progress toward our goals becomes more prevalent when involving a range of community organizations, including animal welfare groups (both municipal and non-profit), that work together. Work with human social services and the veterinary community is encouraged as well. Evaluators will ask if this Organization demonstrates, through this project and other work, a willingness to form lifesaving partnerships with key partners.
Ineligible Funding Areas
PETsMART Charities Grant Program is intended for new programs that show sustainability after the grant period ends. As a general rule, PETsMART Charities will not award grants specifically for building projects, endowment campaigns or general operating budgets. Grants also will not be awarded for programs in support of wildlife or endangered species, in support of promoting animal breeds, or in support of human-related issues. Acquiring sponsorship of a fundraising event is not done through the Grant Program. Sponsorships are generally available for adoption partner groups only, and require a separate Sponsorship application form.
